Building Community Assets and Power – Oct 2026

Exploring how communities are building ownership, strengthening local power and creating lasting economic change.

Who owns the land, buildings and resources in our communities? Who makes the decisions about how they are used?

Our latest report, Building Community Assets and Power, explores how communities affected by racial and economic inequality are taking action to build collective wealth and gain greater control over their futures.

Drawing on three years of Power to Prosper’s work in Greater Manchester, Newham, Lambeth and Nottingham, the report shares the experiences, progress and challenges of community organisations working towards lasting economic change.

Building Community Wealth and Power

Economic inequality goes beyond income and debt. It is also shaped by who owns assets, who has access to resources and who holds the power to make decisions.

The report introduces Power to Prosper’s approach to community asset and power building, which places community organising, collective ownership and racial equity at the centre of economic change.

“Economic inequality goes beyond income and debt. It is also shaped by who owns assets, who has access to resources and who holds the power to make decisions.”

Developed alongside community organisations and informed by peer researchers with lived experience, it explores how communities can build the relationships, leadership and resources needed to create a more equitable economic future.
